Get Wisdom, Get Understanding
– Proverbs 4: 5-9 KJV Wisdom is the quality of having good judgment based on knowledge.

It is popularly known as the ability to discern.

If knowledge is power, wisdom is your choice to use or apply that power.

Understanding is the ability to understand one’s knowledge and choices.

It is the realization of your decision.

Don’t leave home without it!

Acknowledge Your Mistake
Mistakes are a part of life.

Successful people admit their mistakes and accept the consequences instead of blaming others.

Someone once said, “The sooner you fail, the more time you have to improve.”

Ask yourself, “What have I learned? How can I turn this failure into success?”

Henry Ford said, “Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again; this time more intelligently.”

Life
Chef Eric Wells prepared an intimate six-course dinner for my wife’s birthday on July 6th.

On one of the walls was a poster titled, “Life.”

It resonated with me so I thought I would share it with all of you.

What Defines You?
Two things define you –

Your patience when you have nothing and your attitude when you have everything.

Keep a Positive Attitude

Keep a Positive Attitude
Keeping a positive attitude isn’t easy.

It requires mental discipline.

You must protect your mind against the gravitational pull of all the negative influences around you.

This requires you to do two things.

1. Arresting the wrong thoughts.
Take your wrong thoughts captive; otherwise, they will take you captive.

2. Activating the right thoughts by always focusing on the positive.
Your attitude not only affects the quality of your life but also the length of it.

Sing a Song
The music group Earth, Wind, and Fire from back in my day reminded me that when I feel down and out, singing a song will make me feel much better.

When you feel down and out
Sing a song (it’ll make your day) yeah, yeah
You, it’s the time to shout, oh now
Sing a song (it’ll make a way) yeah
Sometimes it’s hard to care
Sing a song (it’ll make your day)
A smile so hard to bear
Sing a song (it’ll make a way) yeah, oh no

If you don’t believe me, click on the link https://youtu.be/X4dsPZmeTys and sing along.

I guarantee you will feel better. I did.

Get Wisdom!

Get Wisdom!
Some of you have heard me say that smart people know what to say but wise people know when it should be said.

Haddon Robinson observes, “Since 1955, knowledge has doubled every five years, however knowledge is not enough to meet life’s problems. We need wisdom, the ability to handle life with skill.”

Charles Spurgeon also once said, “There is no fool so great a fool as a knowing fool; but to know how to use knowledge is wisdom.”

Bottom line – Get Wisdom!

Common sense is not so common

“Common sense is not so common.”
– Voltaire
A recent conversation that I had with a business owner regarding an exchange that one of their employees had with a customer immediately made me think of this quote by Voltaire.

In 1764, Voltaire pointed out that common sense isn’t so common. But what did he mean by it?

Basically, he implied that we don’t always give or perceive that unanimity when it comes to understanding what’s logical or expected in every situation.

Let’s remember to seek understanding first before being understood.

Self-Control

Self-Control
Morgan Freeman once said, “Self-Control is strength. Calmness is Mastery. You must get to a point where your mood doesn’t shift based on the insignificant actions of someone else. Don’t allow others to control the direction of your life. Don’t allow your emotions to empower your intelligence.”

Well said, Mr. Freeman.
