You CAN Teach an Old Dog New Tricks

You Can’t Teach an Old Dog New Tricks!
This is one that we are all familiar with. Either we’ve quoted it ourselves or it was used by someone around you as an excuse to not change, learn, or grow.

Luckily this isn’t the case. Science confirms that while our physical body may gradually decline, our mind retains much of its capacity for continued growth.

Every stage of life presents us with lessons to be learned. You can choose to be humble and keep learning, or you can close your mind and stop growing.

Listen to the Whispers and You Wont Have to Hear the Screams

Listen to the Whispers and You Wont Have to Hear the Screams
This week’s quote is an old Cherokee saying, and I think we can all learn from it. We should never get so caught up in our own ideas, products and services that you don’t hear your customers’ concerns or suggestions.

Remember: seek understanding before being understood.

Happy Thanksgiving from Marvin Montgomery!

Fool Me Once…

Sales Tip #666 From The Sales Doctor
Fool Me Once, Shame on You. Fool Me Twice, Shame on Me
I’m sure most of you are familiar with this quote. It was first coined in 1650 by English politician Anthony Weldon.

It’s a witty adage that reminds you to learn from those trying to trick you. If you don’t, then you might be the only one to blame.

This also applies to the four areas of resistance that sales representatives find themselves facing: Price, Postponement, Competition, and the Resistance to Change.

If you’re still fooled after it happens a second time, that means you haven’t practiced and prepared! So shame on you!

Talent is a Gift, But Character is a Choice

Talent is a Gift, But Character is a Choice
Generally speaking, talent is something you’re born with – you have little to say in the matter.

But character is a choice you get to make each day.

Acting with integrity in small things equips you to act with integrity in big things.

In the hour of temptation, you will be called upon to choose one of two paths: character or compromise.

Every time you choose character, you become stronger – even when your choice comes at a cost.

Never Complain About What You Permit

“Never Complain About What You Permit.”
– Dr. Mike MurdockDr Murdock says, “Your circumstances are not permanent. You have permitted your present circumstances or they would not exist. What you tolerate, you authorize to exist.”

I’ve always said that people only treat you the way you allow them to, so don’t be afraid to take a stand.

Remember – if you don’t take a stand, you will fall for anything.

Thermometer or Thermostat?

Sales Tip #663 From The Sales Doctor
Thermometer or Thermostat?
You can go through life as either a thermometer or a thermostat.

A thermometer reflects the temperature inside or outside and provides you with a reading.

People can be like thermometers. They reflect what is going on around them. If the environment around them is not good, they are not either.

On the other hand, a thermostat sets the temperature and creates the environment.

To be a thermostat, you don’t simply reflect the environment around you – you help to create or change the environment.

Be the thermostat!

Pessimist or Optimist?

Pessimist or Optimist
Winston Churchill said that a pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.

What do you see? Remember that your outlook impacts your outcome or, in some cases, your income.

On Guard!

On Guard!
Guard your THOUGHTS because they become your WORDS.

Guard your words because they become your ACTIONS.

Guard your actions because they become your CHARACTER.

And guard your character because it determines the level of SUCCESS in your life.

Stop Assuming!

Stop Assuming!
I’m sure you have noticed that people make negative assumptions all the time.

We always assume the worst possible scenario.

Stop assuming and begin to think in questions instead of rushing to judgment.

It is always better to ask questions than to assume because assumptions can set us up for negative intent.

Asking questions and actively listening are the most influential and essential things you can do to control your mind and assumptions.

Get in the habit of asking yourself questions multiple times a day.

It will keep you from making an ________ out of you and me.
